The family of Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, said on Sunday that he passed away at his hometown of Plains, Georgia.

The former president received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 and was well-known for his work with charitable groups like Habitat for Humanity.

During his tenure in the White House from 1977 to 1981, Carter brokered the historic agreement between Egypt and Israel, gave Panama ownership of the Panama Canal, significantly increased the area of public lands in Alaska, and established official diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China.

Carter spent more than a year in hospice care after experiencing declining health over the previous ten years. After Carter passed away on Sunday, condolences flooded in from all across the world.

"The world lost a remarkable leader," said Biden in reference to Jimmy Carter.

On Sunday night, President Joe Biden honored his "dear friend" Jimmy Carter by showcasing his accomplishments both as president and during his time as Georgia's governor.
During remarks in Christiansted, Saint Croix, where the president is now on vacation, Biden remarked, "This is a sad day, but it brings back an incredible amount of good memories." "Today, America and the world, in my view, lost a remarkable leader."

He noted that prior to making his speech, Biden was speaking with Carter's family over the phone.

The president told Carter that his favorite memory of him was when he first supported his presidential campaign.

"My fondest memory of Jimmy Carter was when he grabbed me by the arm and said, 'I need you to help me with my campaign,'" "I said," Biden said. "I said, 'I've only been around a couple years, Mr. Governor.'"

The former governor of Georgia stated that he would support Carter's candidacy, but Biden said he wasn't sure if he would have any impact.
In addition to praising Carter's "very kind" treatment of him and Jill Biden following the death of their son Beau Biden, Biden stated, "I told him when I was endorsing him, that it was not only his policies, but his character, his decency, and the honor he communicates to everyone."

Afterwards, Biden praised Carter's treatment of others with respect and called him a "model of what it means to live a life of meaning and purpose".

"Jimmy Carter is an example of just simple decency," Biden stated. "And I think that's what the rest of the world looks to America for."

"Can you imagine Jimmy Carter passing someone in need and simply continuing to walk?" Biden went on. Can you picture Jimmy Carter making a reference to someone based on their appearance or speech pattern? I am unable to.
